Black "holes"

In many, many shows and movies, the black hole is a literal hole. Or is it? A few months ago, Interstellar hit the theaters and surprised some of the audience with a spherical black hole. Was this accurate? Well, according to Neil deGrasse Tyson, this movie shows "Einstein’s Curvature of Space as no other feature film has shown" before. So, in short, yes. But then why did people call it a black "hole"? Well, it resulted in part from the idea that it was like a bottomless pit, sucking in anything that came within a certain distance called the event horizon.  To escape this suck, an object would have to move at a speed "equal to the speed of light, and since relativity says that nothing can travel faster than light, once anything passes within this distance ... , it cannot escape", and so it'd be sucked into the pit, almost like a hole (ast.cam.ac.uk). Isn't that amazing? This basically means that theoretically, it is IMPOSSIBLE to escape it at any conceivable speed you can imagine! Do you know what the speed of light is?

669,600,000 miles per HOUR! That is 111,600,000 miles per MINUTE
&
  186,000 miles per SECOND!

The Flash, Superman, Zoom, Sonic, and every other fast superhero COMBINED couldn't beat that!

Verdict: FALSE

The Five Senses

Sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch. These are the five senses that humans have. But, not the only ones. In fact, there are probably over 20! For example, thermoception is a sense humans use to detect whether something is hot, cold, or anywhere in between. Proprioception is the sense that allows you to be aware of where your body parts are. Ever heard of Phantom Limb Syndrome? You know, when after having had a part of the body amputated, a person still feels it is there? This is because of proprioception! In addition, ever wondered what pain is? It it an emotion or feeling? Actually, it is a symptom of another one of your senses! Pain is the result of a sensory system called nociception! Of course, these are only a few of your many senses, but it is proof that your senses aren't limited to       a measly 5!

The Sun's Ablaze!

The sun is the center of our solar system, and probably the most recognizable thing in our sky and solar system. Yet, most people's belief of what it is, is actually a myth. Most people think the sun is a giant fireball that lights up our day and keeps us from freezing, but, even though the latter is true, the SUN IS NOT A FIREBALL. Actually, the sun is a giant ball of gas. But why does it shine and give off heat? Nuclear Fusion! That basically means that many many hydrogen atoms within the sun's core are colliding, forming helium and releasing tons of energy which we perceive in the form of light and heat. "But then why are there pictures of the sun all red and fiery?" Well, the truth is that the sun is white. as shown above. The image of a yellow or orange sun is so recognizable, that some scientists actually change images of the sun to make it obvious that its the sun. The hotter a star is, the brighter and blue-like it seems. Given its temperature of about 6000 Kelvin, the sun isn't quite hot enough to be blue, so it is actually white.
